Barnsley Sexual Abuse & Rape Crisis Helpline (BSARCH) is a registered charity, based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, which supports people whose lives have been affected by sexual violence. |
| |
 |
| |
We are independent and our services are free and confidential. We only share information about our service users if they've asked us to, if we've gained their express permission, or if it's absolutely necessary for legal reasons, for example, if a child is in danger. |

We recognise that sexual violence can affect anyone, whatever their background or circumstances. At the same time, we acknowledge that sexual violence is predominantly experienced by women and predominantly perpetrated by men. For this reason, all our staff and volunteers are women and we maintain our premises as a women-only safe space. Nonetheless, we're happy to support male survivors over our helpline, to provide them with information and to signpost them to organisations that can offer them face-to-face services. We believe and listen to all our callers and, although we don't work with men directly, we would never suggest that one survivor's experience is more or less significant than another's. |

 |
| |
Established in 1988, we have over 20 years' experience of providing specialist sexual violence services. We're run by a small staff team and over 25 specially-trained volunteers, and we're members of the Telephone Helplines Association, the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and Rape Crisis (England & Wales). We tend to recruit new volunteers once a year. If you're a woman aged 18+ and you feel you'd like to get involved with BSARCH in this way, please contact our office (see below). |
